Background

Viners holds an operating PV portfolio in the United Kingdom, 162.67 MW across multiple sites. The question was not whether new modules exist, but whether a designated module actually fits plants that were designed years earlier, and whether replacing panels pays for itself on each individual site. Existing Phase-2 technical due diligence reports covered the assets, but none of them answered the repowering question.

Process

One Hub Energy worked under an Owner's Engineer scope. The team first ran a technical PV module compatibility assessment, reviewing module replacement and like-for-like options against the existing plant design and their technical and operational implications. That screening was then extended into a full repaneling study covering 9 UK projects, with a module proposal, mechanical and electrical compatibility analysis, and cost and yield analysis per site. In parallel, One Hub Energy reviewed the existing Phase-2 technical due diligence reports for the operating portfolio and assessed repowering economics site by site, including Marley Thatch, Muncey's Farm, Thoresby, Waterloo and Black Peak. The output was structured so the client could apply it as a business-model decision, not as a generic technical opinion.

Outcome

"The compatibility study identified, project by project, the 9 sites where the designated PV module was mechanically and electrically compatible for repaneling and where it was not. Across the portfolio, the repowering feasibility work showed that performance-improvement potential varies materially from site to site, which turned a portfolio-level idea into a site-level investment shortlist."
