Energy-storage strategy for an experienced global IPP, techno-economic and regulatory feasibility of a 50 MW BESS with 5 MW PV hybridisation, plus assessment of a greenfield standalone BESS opportunity.
An experienced global IPP with BESS projects worldwide had to define its energy storage strategy for Spain and test two very different routes: hybridising an existing PV project and a greenfield standalone BESS.
One Hub Energy reviewed the regulatory framework and planned the hybridisation development — regulation overview, deficiencies, expected administrative and market-rule updates, and schedule and budget planning. The techno-economic assessment analysed an optimised hybridisation incorporating storage into a PV project at RTB stage, based on additional energy yield and cover against low PV capture prices, with economic feasibility and long-term valuation run on our in-house dispatch and price-taker BESS model and support on the preliminary feasibility financial model; a greenfield standalone BESS opportunity was assessed in parallel. One Hub Energy then selected the most suitable plant configuration and sizing and prepared the basic engineering documentation, including technical drawings and the documentation for the grid access update request.
