Repowering scenarios and module compatibility for a 123 MW, 8-site UK PV portfolio

Two linked studies for the same UK portfolio: an energy yield comparison of repowering scenarios with high-level CAPEX and construction impact per scenario, and a deviation assessment of a designated PV module against like-for-like replacement.

01
Background

ORIT held an eight-site PV portfolio in the United Kingdom totalling 123 MW and needed to decide whether, and how, to repower it. Repaneling an operating fleet is not a single decision: each site has its own mechanical and electrical configuration, so a module that fits one array may not fit the next. The client also needed to know what a specific replacement module would mean technically and operationally compared with a like-for-like replacement.

02
Process

One Hub Energy ran the work as two connected studies. The first was a repowering/revamping feasibility study for the eight-site portfolio, built on an Energy Yield Assessment that compared repowering scenarios side by side, each with a high-level CAPEX estimate and an assessment of its construction impact. The second was a module compatibility and deviation assessment carried out in an EPCm context, contrasting the designated replacement module with a like-for-like replacement in technical and operational terms. Mechanical and electrical compatibility was checked site by site rather than assumed across the fleet. Module alternatives were put forward where the designated unit did not fit.

03
Outcome

"The repowering report was delivered with an equipment proposal, mechanical and electrical compatibility findings and a combined cost and yield analysis. The compatibility study identified which of the projects were suitable for repaneling with the designated PV module, and set out alternatives and their cost implications for the rest."
