Rooftop solar communities: strategy, development and owner's engineering for 11 MWp
Strategy, business model and feasibility for 11 MWp of collective self-consumption solar communities on third-party rooftops, developed through to access and connection permits and supervised as owner's engineer through construction and legalisation.
The client had to turn a portfolio of third-party rooftops into viable collective self-consumption solar communities, with a business model the offtakers would accept and permits and bank guarantees under control.
One Hub Energy developed the strategy and the business model for the rooftop solar communities and assessed the technical and economic feasibility of each one, including the PPA price proposals for the self-consumers. Hourly energy modelling and simulation sized the PV solution and fed the basic engineering package. One Hub Energy then developed the 11 MWp collective self-consumption project through to the access and connection permits — for internal-grid connection or direct connection to the DNO distribution network — and supported the placement and correct constitution of the bank guarantees. During construction, One Hub Energy acted as owner's engineer: follow-up of works permits, review of the contractor's construction package and as-built documentation, on-site supervision, and budget and schedule control through construction and legalisation.

"Business model, strategy and feasibility were delivered for 11 MWp of industrial solar communities and the projects were developed through to access and connection permits, with an average access and connection time of 3 months and a 7-year payback; owner's engineering secured quality, safety and permit compliance through construction."
